In the Central Region, MMT is currently operating in two
cities; Cape Coast and Swedru. Cape Coast is the first capital of
Britain’s Gold Coast colony and modern capital of Ghana’s Central
Region. Since the 18th century, Cape Coast has grown to one of the
largest and most important trading ports along the coast. Despite the
fact that Accra has taken over this important role of Cape Coast, it is
still a place where transportation is very important, as well because
the population of the Central region is up to 2 million.
Furthermore, Swedru can be seen as a large coastal settlement between
Accra and Cape Coast. It connects different strategic cities between
Accra and Cape Coast, and therefore functions as an important transport
hub.
