The Netherlands is considered as the gateway of Europe and are from origin a ‘trading’ country. It is therefore not surprising that The Netherlands and Ghana maintain a business relationship for the past 400 years. The Netherlands has Africa at the core of its integration of foreign policy and development cooperation. FMO, the Netherlands’ international development bank is therefore financing many projects in the whole of Ghana.

The capital city of the Netherlands, Amsterdam, maintains a close relationship with Ghana’s capital Accra. In addition the Dutch regional capital Almere maintains a sister-city development programme with Kumasi. These two strong city connections are backed up by 800 Dutch living in Ghana and the Ghanaian community in the Netherlands estimated around forty thousand.

The city of Amsterdam is supporting MMT heavily by providing the expertise of the managing Director Cas van Eerden. Transfer of knowledge is also a key issue for FMO (ORET GRANT) and VDL that provide in addition to the DAF and VDL buses technical expertise and Technical Manager Mr. Ad bd Heuvel.
