In the Western Region, MMT is currently operating in the
twin cities of Sekondi – Takoradi, which together form the third-largest
urban conglomeration in Ghana. Takoradi is known as a populous, modern
and industrialized city in the southwest of Ghana.
The Western Region is a perfect example of how city– urban- and rural
should be connected. Inside Takoradi and Sekondi a Bus Rapid Transit
System is running that connects the various residential and business
areas. Sekondi and Agona Nkwanta run a high frequent urban connection
with Takoradi now. From Sekondi and Agona Nkwanta it is possible to take
scheduled rural services into the outskirts of the Western Region.
For example: A trader from Tarkwa may decide to sell his goods at the
market in Takoradi. He should take the rural DAF bus to Agona Nkwanta,
transfer to a high frequent urban Yaxing towards the Takoradi terminal
and could take from there the Bus Rapid Transit bus to the central
market. All services are fast and reliable.
